As the synopsis puts it, the 60-year-old filmmaker “adapts Mary Shelley’s classic tale of Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but egotistical scientist who brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation.”

Leading the cast are Oscar Isaac as Victor and Jacob Elordi as the Creature.

“For some strange reason, when I was a kid, Pinocchio and Frankenstein became the two most compelling images of what I think I felt like as a kid,” Del Toro, who also directed Netflix’s 2022 stop-motion animated film “Pinocchio,” recently told The Philippine STAR in an exclusive Zoom interview.

“I felt like a ‘creature’ that didn’t quite fit in the human world, and they came to represent that side that was very painful as a kid.”
