Google Pay gears up for Phl entry amid Asean growth push

Google Pay is gearing up to enter the Philippine market and is open to working with banks and financial technology firms as it seeks to expand its payment ecosystem across Southeast Asia within the next 18 to 24 months.

TG Ramakrishnan, strategic partnerships lead for Google Pay Asia-Pacific, said the tech giant wants to ensure that its digital payment services become “universally accessible and universally useful,” with a focus on simplifying both online and offline transactions.

“So, we want to make sure as Google that we work with every partnership ecosystem in each of the markets to take payments out to every single consumer,” Ramakrishnan said during a panel at the 2025 Singapore Fintech Festival.

“In a market like the Philippines, 8.5 out of 10 people use Android as an ecosystem, and about nine out of 10 people use Google Chrome as a browser for online.”
