Ex-PAL chief named MPTC head

Seasoned executive Gilbert Santa Maria is making the leap from runways to tollways following his appointment as the new head of Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC).
MPTC yesterday announced the designation of Santa Maria as president and CEO, taking over the position left by interim head Jose Maria Lim.
Santa Maria will lead MPTC as it prepares for an initial public offering (IPO) and explores a merger with San Miguel Corp.'s (SMC) toll business.
Santa Maria, who led flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) during the pandemic, will also see the completion of MPTC's projects to the south. Specifically, MPTC is working on finally finishing the Cavite-Laguna Expressway by 2026.
