ERC Shuts Down Siquijor Power Firm

The Philippine Star

August 30, 2025

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has ordered the immediate shutdown of the Villar-owned power firm in Siquijor due to repeated regulatory and operational violations.

- By Brix Lelis

The ERC revoked all provisional authorities to operate granted to the Siquijor Island Power Corp. and allowed TotalPower Inc. (TPI) to assume Sipcor's operation through emergency power supply agreements (EPSAs).

"To effect a seamless transition from your supply to TPI, you are ordered to cease plant operations by 3 p.m.," the ERC said in an order dated Aug. 28. "In this regard, Sipcor is directed to cooperate and synchronize its plants' shutdown with the commercial operation and synchronization of (TPI)'s generating units to Prosielco's distribution lines."

Prosielco or the Province of Siquijor Electric Cooperative Inc. is the power distributor on the island.
