DMCI eyes P3-B subsea cable for power supply to Mindoro

The Consunji family’s DMCI Power Corp. is planning to put up a P3-billion submarine cable in Semirara Island that can carry up to 100 megawatts of energy to Mindoro.

DMCI Power, a subsidiary of DMCI Holdings Inc., is seeking regulatory approval to lay down a submarine cable, spanning 20 kilometers, between Semirara and Mindoro.
DMCI chairman and CEO Isidro Consunji said the company wants to supply power in Mindoro, noting that the province relies on more expensive energy sources, particularly diesel.
Under former energy chief Raphael Lotilla, the Department of Energy (DOE) told Consunji that if he completes the submarine cable, Mindoro would be turned into an open market. Right now, the DOE has yet to give DMCI Power its approval.
