BEABADOOBEE PAYS HOMAGE

ON A TUESDAY NIGHT, we went out to see and rock with Filipino-British singer-songwriter Beabadoobee (stylized as beabadoobee) at the New Frontier Theater for her "Asia Tour 2025" in Manila.

- CHARMIE JOY PAGULONG

Taking the line from her track Talk, "we go out on a Tuesday," she performed it as her second song along with her bandmates during the Day 1 of her two-night shows last August 12 and 13. The STAR was able to attend the Day 1 gig, which was presented by Live Nation Philippines.

Three years ago in the same venue, she opened her act with California but this time around she opted for the infidelity-themed Worth It as her first song.

"Manila, ako po si Bea," she introduced herself to the audience, mostly Gen Z, and launched into 10:36 and the rock anthem Charlie Brown and ear worm tracks Take a Bite and Sunny Day.

"It's good to be back home," she exclaimed and mounted the heavy tune Charlie Brown, complemented by pulsating red stage lighting that matched the song's fierce energy.

"Merong Ilonggo dito? Merong Tagalog dito?" she asked the hyped-up crowd then strummed her guitar for the acoustic Ever Seen and the bossa nova-inflicted the perfect pair.

She then announced that her "real man" would arrive the next day, a cue to her next ditty, Real Man, and the flirty Glue Song.

And just like her previous Manila concert, the Iloilo-born indie pop-rock artist, whose real name is Beatrice Kristi Ilejay Laus, didn't forget to pay homage to her Filipino roots.

Midway into her concert, she did a heartfelt cover of APO Hiking Society's Panalangin with her guitarist, a proud Filipino.
