At the UN, Trump shifts stance on Russia-Ukraine war

President Donald Trump appeared to shift his stance on the war between Russia and Ukraine on Tuesday, saying he now believed Ukraine could, with military support from NATO and the United States, regain all of the territory it has lost to Russian forces.

Trump's statement, in a social media message, left many European leaders and diplomats gathered at the United Nations General Assembly puzzling over its meaning.
For months, Trump and his aides have suggested that Ukraine would need to give up some of its territory to secure a peace deal with Russia. At one point, Trump even told the Ukrainian president he "had no cards."But Trump reversed course Tuesday, writing in his post that Kyiv was in a position to "fight and WIN all of Ukraine back in its original form." Trump's change in stance came after a bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who welcomed it as a "big shift."Trump said his views had been altered because he was beginning to "fully understand" the military and economic situation, and he called Russia a paper tiger with huge economic problems.
