UP's Take-Home Ration Scheme goes high-tech with face recognition system for transparent distribution

The Take-Home Ration (THR) scheme in Uttar Pradesh, aimed at protecting pregnant women, lactating mothers, adolescent girls, and young children from malnutrition, is now setting new benchmarks in technological efficiency and transparency. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state government has integrated a Face Recognition System (FRS) into THR distribution, transforming the process into a digital and transparent mechanism that effectively curbs duplication and fraud.

A key highlight of the initiative is that eligible beneficiaries can now receive nutritious rations through simple facial recognition, ensuring faster, safer, and more accountable service delivery, especially for women and children. Kanpur Nagar, Ghaziabad, Bijnor, Unnao, and Jhansi are among the top five districts making rapid progress in FRS adoption. The Yogi government has directed that the system be implemented for all beneficiaries across the state by 1 July 2025.
