In a significant crackdown on forest produce smuggling, a joint team of Jammu Police and Forest Department officials intercepted a Bolero pick-up loaded with illegal Khair wood during a routine naka check in Gharota area on Thursday night.

The vehicle, registered JK 14E-0210, was signalled to stop but the driver attempted to flee, abandoning the vehicle on the roadside after a chase.

He managed to escape under the cover of darkness.
