Modern Safety For Railways
The Northlines
|16 JULY 2025
By Tushar Srivastava
The Indian Railways, often referred to as the lifeline of the nation, serves millions of passengers daily across its vast network.
However, in recent years, trains have increasingly become a convenient medium for illicit activities ranging from theft and drug trafficking to the transportation of contraband and even unidentified bodies. This emerging threat not only jeopardizes passenger safety but also poses a major challenge to law enforcement agencies operating in a system as vast and dynamic as the Indian Railways. To combat this growing menace, the Indian Railways has initiated the installation of high-resolution CCTV cameras across 74,000 coaches and 15,000 engines under a National Surveillance upgrade plan.
