Additional charge syndrome hits PWD: Efficiency at stake

Contrary to the government's claims of promoting an efficient work culture, the Public Works Department (PWD) is reportedly grappling with what insiders call an "additional charge syndrome", where single officers are burdened with multiple districts and key positions.

According to sources, a single Chief Engineer of PWD Jammu is handling four crucial positions simultaneously. Apart from his primary role, he also oversees the PMGSY (Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana) operations in both Jammu and Srinagar and holds the top position of Engineer-in-Chief, which is meant to be singular for the Union Territory.
