Mom kills self, girl seeks alms for last rites

FOLLOWING the suicide of her mother, who lived in poor financial condition, an 11-year-old girl Meera Durga, the only daughter of the deceased sought alms from the public for performing last rites on the body of her mother in Bheltharoda village Thanoor mandal in Nirmal district on Sunday.

The girl's father died 12 years ago and the only breadwinner of the family too died by suicide. Durga, a sixth class student, the lone survivor of the family, was clueless on how to perform the last rites on her mother without money. Knowing her plight, the local police, several teachers and BRS leaders came forward and provided money to the girl, who performed the final rites by evening.
