THE Centre on Wednesday said the number of most affected districts by Left-wing extremism (LWE) has been brought down to three from six and affected districts to 11 from 18.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has set March 31 next year as the target to free India from Naxal violence.
"Now, only Bijapur, Sukma and Narayanpur in Chhattisgarh are the most affected districts by the LWE," the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said in a statement on a day when 88 members of CPI (Maoist) surrendered in Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra. Top CPI (Maoist) leader Mallojula Venugopal Rao, alias Bhupati, and 60 cadres surrendered in Maharashtra on Tuesday.
