FSSAI asked to examine ‘high sugar' content of Nestle baby food product
The New Indian Express
|April 20, 2024
RAISING concern over claims that Nestle is selling high-sugar baby foods in India compared to Europe, the Consumer Affairs Ministry on Friday asked the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to examine the allegations against the company.
Consumer Affairs Secretary and Central Consumer Protection Authority chief Nidhi Khare said that she has written to FSSAI to examine the composition of Nestle Cerelac baby cereals sold in India.
"We have requested the FSSAI to examine and take appropriate action on the allegations made in the report that Nestle is selling higher sugar content in India, as compared to European markets," she said.
"We need to know the truth about whether it is impacting the consumers' health. The health of our children is of prime importance," she added.
