93% of F&O traders made losses

A new study by market regulator Sebi has found that only 7% of future & options (F&O) segment traders made money while the vast majority of them or as much as 93% lost heavily between FY22 and FY24.
They have collectively lost a whopping 1.8 lakh crore in the past three years or nearly 2 lakh per person.
While 3.5% of such trader lost to the tune of ₹28 lakh per person, only 1% of them managed to earn profit exceeding ₹1 lakh, after adjusting for transaction costs, the regulator said.
Despite consecutive three years of losses, more than 75% of loss-making traders continued trading in F&O.
