₹206-crore plan unveiled to preserve soil fertility

EMPHASISING the need for chemical-free agriculture practices, the state government on Tuesday announced Chief Minister's Mannuyir Kaathu Mannuyir Kappom Scheme (CM MK MKS), a flagship programme aimed at preserving soil fertility comprehensively. The programme, which has 22 components, will be implemented at a cost of 206 crore.

The scheme aims to preserve soil fertility through the promotion of green manure usage and ₹20 crore has been earmarked for the distribution of green manure seeds to cover 2 lakh acres benefitting 2 lakh farmers in 2024-25.
Besides, 10,000 farmers will be provided with vermicompost beds (2 per person) for a total outlay of 6 crore. In addition, ₹5 crore will be allocated for setting up permanent vermicompost pits.
