SCIENTISTS of ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (NBFGR) discovered a new eel species called Ariosoma tamilicum off Thoothukudi coast.
SCIENTISTS of ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (NBFGR) discovered a new eel species called Ariosoma tamilicum off Thoothukudi coast. The Thoothukudi fishermen during the collection of the species at the fishing harbour appealed that the species be named after Tamil language if it was discovered as a new species, Director (acting) of ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources TT Ajith Kumar said. A study stated that the species has been named 'tamilicum' with reference to Tamil language.
