The country will roll out its first Made-in-India chip by the end of this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Friday.
While addressing the nation on the 79th Independence Day, Modi recalled how earlier attempts to set up semiconductor factories 50-60 years ago were "killed at birth," while other nations prospered. He said India is now operating in "mission mode." He said India could have been competing with countries like Taiwan, the US, China, and South Korea, which are currently leading in the production, design, and export of semiconductors.
