Convert HR&CE colleges into state govt institutions: EPS

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) on Thursday said that utilising funds from the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department for the maintenance of colleges was inappropriate, and instead called for the institutions to be converted into government arts and science colleges to ensure proper facilities for students.
Responding to Chief Minister M K Stalin's remarks on the HR&CE colleges row, EPS made the statement while launching the AIADMK's first phase of campaigning for the 2026 Assembly elections in Villupuram district.
Addressing a large gathering at the Puducherry Road-Tiruchy Trunk Road junction, EPS launched a scathing attack on the DMK government, accusing it of administrative failure, poor disaster preparedness, and neglect of public welfare.
