Rescue gains momentum as Army saves 260 in Dharali
The New Indian Express Vijayawada
|August 08, 2025
NEARLY 260 people were rescued on Thursday as a multi-agency team, led by the Indian Army, intensified evacuation efforts in Uttarkashi's flash flood-battered Dharali.
While official figures list 16 people, nine Army personnel and seven civilians, as missing, ground reports from villagers suggest the actual number could exceed 100. Three civilian fatalities have been confirmed, and over 100 people are feared missing, including nine Army personnel, after an Army post sustained extensive damage.
The rescued people were brought to the Matli helipad in Uttarkashi. Approximately 400 people remain stranded in Gangotri, Army helicopters evacuating them to safety.
