AROUND 40 people suffering from spinal cord injuries visited the Vellore collectorate on Monday to petition Collector V R Subbulaxmi for converting their ration cards to Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) cards.
The petition was submitted under the banner of their association, the Spinal Injured Persons Association.
Speaking to TNIE, A Gurumoorthy, a person with disability and a functionary of Tamil Nadu Association for the Rights of All Types of Differently Abled and Caregivers, said they had been struggling to get ration cards of PwDs converted to AAY cards.
"After repeatedly requesting for two-and-a-half years, the ration cards of around 48 out of the total 55 members have been converted to AAY, but seven are yet to be converted."
