No proper road to hilly Negnamalai village, body carried in doli for 4 km

Mud road laid in 2020; no public transport facility to hamlet that is home to 700 people
AT Vaniyambadi's Negnamalai hill village, home to around 700 people, the body of a 60-year-old resident had to be carried from the foothill to the village in a doli for around four kilometers under torchlight and mobile flashlight, following his death on Sunday night.
Recalling incidents where pregnant women, bodies of deceased, and those facing medical emergencies had to be carried in a doli due to the absence of a proper road, the villagers (farm labourers) reiterated the demand for a proper road.
According to resident E M Munisamy, the deceased, K Govindan, a daily wage labourer in agriculture, complained of chest pain on Sunday evening. His family initially took him to a private hospital on a two-wheeler. After initial treatment, the hospital referred him to Vaniyambadi GH.
