Firm told to pay ₹4L for rejecting claim over PED

TIRUNELVELI District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission recently ordered a private insurance company to pay a claim amount of ₹4.07 lakh with 9% interest from March 2023, along with a compensation of ₹10,000, to a woman who had undergone a surgery.
The company rejected the claim citing a pre-existing disease (PED), but the woman said she had not undergone any treatment prior to the procedure.
The complainant, R Subbulakshmi (59), said she paid a total insurance premium of ₹41,813 between November 30, 2020, and October 29, 2022, and renewed the policy for the third year on time.
