Ruckus in Thrissur Corp Council Meet Over Inaction Against Fragile Buildings

The Thrissur Corporation council meeting held on Monday was disbanded abruptly after the UDF-led opposition and BJP created a ruckus over the delay in initiating action against fragile buildings within the city limits.
The issue began after an asbestos sheet, dangerously perched on top of a corporation building, fell on the middle of MO Road amid heavy rain and wind recently. It was alleged that the corporation officials didn't initiate any action despite complaints regarding the danger posed by the asbestos sheet.
The discussions that began after the falling of the asbestos sheet still continue as the corporation hesitated to take action against similar buildings that are in a dilapidated state. The corporation had listed 144 buildings in dangerous category. The owners of another set of 60 buildings were directed to obtain stability certificates from Government Engineering College, which is authorized to issue such a certificate.
