Man who made Hortus Malabaricus available to modern world dies

WHEN botanist K S Manilal plunged himself into the task of translating 'Hortus Malabaricus', the 17th-century Latin tome on the plant wealth of Malabar, in 1969 into English and Malayalam, he was fully aware of the enormity of the task that lay ahead.
Still, it took him over 30 years to publish the book, which spanned 12 volumes—the first came out in 1678—and was published by Hendrik van Rheede, the then Dutch Governor of Cochin. in English (2003) and Malayalam (2008).
