ITFoK: Assamese play Chai Garam's portrayal of tribal struggle wins hearts

ON THE 6th day of the International Theatre Festival of Kerala (ITFoK), Chai Garam, a play by Assam-based Orchid Theatre, took the spectators on a journey through the valleys of this mountain state, with vivid depictions of the struggles and survival of its tribal people.
The production shed light on the exploitation and oppression faced by these communities under British colonial rule, a part of which still continues in the tea plantations of the state. Directed by Sahidul Haque, Chai Garam portrays the harrowing experiences of tribal people lured into migrating to the tea plantations of Assam with false promises.
The play captures the helplessness of the workers, many of whom migrated from Jharkhand under colonial rule, bringing their historical struggles to life on the ITFoK stage.
