Heritage Animal Task Force alleges elephant rights violation in Pooram

HERITAGE Animal Task Force chairman V K Venkitachalam has raised a complaint against the violation of the Captive Elephant Management Rules during the 229th edition of the Thrissur Pooram held on Tuesday.

Venkitachalam said the district collector failed to convene the district elephant monitoring committee for captive elephants on schedule, resulting in blatant violation of court guidelines and rules during the elephant parade. He alleged that no member from the Animal Welfare Board was present during the fitness examination of jumbos on the eve of the pooram.
