Recently, the government informed a parliamentary standing committee on Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution led by Kanimozhi, that the difference between the target beneficiaries as per the National Food Security Act (NFSA) of 2013 and the actual count is about 0.79 crore people.
The committee presented its eighth report on the demands for grants for the financial year 2025-26 to both Houses of Parliament, highlighting concerns about a slight decline in the number of beneficiaries, which stands at 80.56 crore at present, compared to the mandated limit of 81.35 crore under the NFSA.
