PATRIOTIC fervour swept across the Godavari districts as citizens marked the 79th Independence Day on Friday by hoisting the tricolour at homes, offices, and educational institutions.

In Rajamahendravaram, Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh unfurled the National Flag at the Arts College grounds, announcing elaborate arrangements for the upcoming Godavari Pushkarams in all major towns and bathing ghats. He said ₹94.44 crore had been allocated for the Akhanda Godavari project, with works under way at Pushkara Ghat. "We will improve facilities in all ghats and convert Kadiyam nursery into an eco project," he said, adding that the project would create 10,000 jobs.
