CM announces installation of crest gates to the dam at a cost of Rs 120 crore to protect land in the district from flooding
CHIEF Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday announced that the canals of the Vani Vilas Sagar dam will be modernised at a cost of Rs 1,274 crore, so that the dam water reaches tail-end farmers. Addressing the public after conducting Ganga puja to the oldest dam of Karnataka at Vani Vilasapura of Hiriyur taluk, he said that his government is committed to the development of the irrigation sector in the district and the state.
Once the modernisation work is completed, farmers will get sufficient water for growing crops, he claimed.
Along with this, he also announced that crest gates will be fixed to the dam at a cost of Rs 120 crore, so that lands in Hosadurga taluk that get submerged will be free from flooding in future. Levelling allegations against the Central government for not releasing the Rs 5,300 crore announced in the 2023-24 Union Budget by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, he said, "Our repeated requests to the Union government have not yielded any results, not even a single penny has been released."
