As technology advances, despite awareness campaign more educated people are falling prey to online fraud
DESPITE sustained awareness campaigns, educating the public about cybercrime continues to be a Herculean task for the district cyber police, as the number of reported cases keeps rising. Over the past three years, residents in the district have collectively lost Rs 21.98 crore to various cyber frauds. A total of 154 cybercrime cases have been registered during this period, including investment fraud, job scams, gift frauds, OTP and link-based frauds, banking-related crimes, and others.
The police were able to recover only Rs 2.70 crore from 51 solved cyber crime cases. With the advent of technology, the fraudsters have started to explore new ways of siphoning public money.
