Officials in every dept should prioritise mental health

MENTAL stress is present at every stage, and no department or official is exempt from it.
Hence, workshops like this are essential for maintaining mental health, said Marulasiddaradhya H J, First Additional District and Sessions Judge.
He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating a legal awareness programme on mental health held at the Police Auditorium in the city on Saturday. The programme was jointly organised by the District Judiciary, District Legal Services Authority, District Police Department, District Health and Family Welfare Department, the Mental Health Programme, and the District Bar Association.
He highlighted the importance of understanding mental health-related laws and government schemes. The National Legal Services Authority, operating under the Chief Justice of India, oversees nearly 10 laws and initiatives that provide free legal aid to economically disadvantaged individuals, legal assistance for people with mental illnesses, and access to government schemes.
"Mental health patients should not face discrimination. The Indian Constitution grants them the right to life, equality, voting, and legal services," he said. "The Legal Services Authorities Act, enacted in 1987, ensures these rights, and we must raise awareness about them."
