ELAIS & Châteaux Malabar House recently relaunched their houseboat experience, Discovery, on the backwaters of Kerala. Discovery is a rebuilt boat (hull and superstructure) that maintains its iconic architectural integrity. It has been modeled after the traditional Kettuvallam (wooden rice barge) but with a minimalist aesthetic. The frame has been handcrafted from seasoned hardwood, using coir rope and features polished wood, thatched roofing and open living spaces. The design has been conceived and curated by Joerg Dre
