'Samalei' Spurs Cultural Revival in Sambalpur

Amaleswari temple, the revered 16th-century shrine dedicated to the presiding deity of Sambalpur, has undergone a transformative redevelopment under Samaleswari Temple Area Management and Local Economic Initiatives (SAMALEI) project of Odisha government.

The initiative has not only enhanced the temple's infrastructure but also reinforced its cultural and spiritual significance in the region.
Revitalizing the Sacred Vicinity The first phase of the SAMALEI project focused on rejuvenating the temple's immediate surroundings. Key developments included construction of an one-km-long heritage corridor encircling the temple, four grand Kalingan-style heritage gates, and the establishment of amenities such as a bhog mandap, rest areas, cloakrooms, and information centres. The Mahanadi riverfront was also developed, featuring the 'arati ghat', a 31-metre-wide platform designed for evening rituals.
