Govt forms addl chief secy-led committee to probe KIIT incident

THE state government on Tuesday constituted a high-level fact-finding committee headed by additional chief secretary in Home department Satyabrata Sahu to inquire into all aspects of the alleged suicide by a Nepali girl student on the KIIT campus here.

The committee has principal secretary in the Women and Child Development department Shubha Sarma and Higher Education secretary Aravind Agrawal as members.

Issuing a press note, the government said it has taken immediate cognisance of the matter and the institution has been placed under notice.

"Reports of misconduct including use of force against students by private individuals are being investigated and those responsible will be held accountable as per the law. The government of Odisha remains committed to ensure the safety, dignity and well-being of every student and will take all necessary steps to ensure that justice is served swiftly and fairly," the note added.
