Desilting of 207 irrigation & drainage canals starts

AGRICULTURE and Farmers Welfare Minister MRK Panneerselvam on Sunday launched desilting works for 207 irrigation and drainage canals under the Cauvery Delta Special Desilting Scheme at an estimated cost of ₹16 crore.

AGRICULTURE and Farmers Welfare Minister MRK Panneerselvam on Sunday launched desilting works for 207 irrigation and drainage canals under the Cauvery Delta Special Desilting Scheme at an estimated cost of ₹16 crore. The programme was held in the presence of District Collector Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar.

Following the launch, the minister inspected various ongoing development projects under Chidambaram municipality. Speaking to reporters, the Minister said, "As per the CM's directive, 814 irrigation canals covering a length of 2,530 km in the delta region have been desilted. These canals are benefiting 1,33,522 acres of agricultural land. In addition, infrastructure works to meet the basic needs of the public are being implemented in both urban and rural areas."
