At pre-budget meet, farmers ask TN govt to bring own insurance scheme

FARMERS participating in the first of a series of consultative meetings ahead of the presentation of this year's Agriculture Budget in Kumbakonam of the district on Friday demanded that the state government roll out a crop insurance scheme of its own than have private insurance companies carry out implementation of the existing Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY).
The meeting chaired by Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare MRK Panneerselvam saw the participation of farmers from the districts of Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore, Ariyalur, Perambalur and Tiruchy.
