Singhvi Slams Centre on Delimitation Exercise

Says not involving stakeholders into discussion a threat to federalism
Rajya Sabha MP and senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi lashed out at the Central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not involving all the stakeholders in the proposed delimitation exercise expected to be carried out on the basis of population.
"There should be a discussion on the issue. Home Minister Amit Shah has said there will not be a decrease in a single seat. However, he never said that the seats will not be increased. Such big decisions require dialogue for better solutions," he said.
Speaking to media persons here on Saturday, Singhvi said the proposed delimitation exercise is a "serious issue" that begs the attention of the ruling party and government at the Centre. When asked whether the dissatisfaction and uproar of the southern states would not widen the gap between the Centre and the states, he warned that this will affect Article 81 and 82 which talk about fairness and equality and very principles of federalism and basic structure.
