Top court peeved with minor charges against the accused in a case of honour killing in UP
EXPRESSING displeasure at the Allahabad High Court and the trial court for charging the accused in an honour killing case in Uttar Pradesh with "culpable homicide not amounting to murder" instead of the higher charge of "murder" under Section 302, the Supreme Court set aside their verdicts and ordered framing of the latter section against them.
A two-judge bench of CJI Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar heard a plea by a petitioner, Ayyub Ali, whose 26-year-old son Zia Ur Rehman was allegedly beaten to death by his lover's family members. The accused in the case are Janeshar, Maneshar, Priyanshi and Sham.
