AT least five people were killed in the Jammu region over the past 48 hours due to heavy snowfall and rain, which led to the closure of the Srinagar-Jammu national highway — the only road connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country.
In one incident, a driver of a Scorpio vehicle was killed, and two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel travelling in it were injured when a boulder struck the vehicle in the Madana area of Poonch on Thursday.
In another case, a tipper fell into a gorge during heavy rainfall in the Bafliaz area of Surankote, resulting in the driver's death. Additionally, a 14-year-old boy died after being swept away when he fell into the Sangoor Nallah in the Tuli area of Chassana, located in the Mahore of Reasi district.
A woman and her son lost their lives when rolling stones struck their motorcycle in Udhampur district.
