NHAI Builds 50 km Service Road on NH-66 Using Plastic Waste

THE National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has built a 50-km long service road on NH-66 using 170 tonnes of plastic waste generated from over 250 gram panchayats in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.
The stretch from Talapady located on the Kerala border to Nanthur and from Surathkal to Sasthan, was built using the new technology as per the specifications laid down by the Indian Road Congress and completed a few weeks ago.
The initiative is in compliance with the Central government's mandate to use waste plastic in road construction especially within 50-km of the periphery of any city with a population of over 5 lakh in order to reduce plastic waste.
