A delegation led by Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna with a battery of BJP leaders submitted a memorandum to Udupi SP Dr Arun K recently, stating that the folk sport Koli Anka (rooster fight) along with other local rituals connected to the culture of the land should be permitted as the stricter rules framed by the district administration are affecting the rural sport now.

In a letter to the SP, the MLA had stated that Kambala, Koli Anka, Yakshagana, Nemothsava, Nagamandala and other rituals were part of the local culture and stricter rules framed by the district administration were hurting religious sentiments of the local people.

He said that several organisers and the public in general have been approaching him with a request to make sure that local culture is not hampered. So, he requested the district administration to allow those rituals to continue without any hindrances.
