Guinness-Famed Muddanda Hockey Festival Records Grand Inauguration

THE Muddanda Hockey Festival witnessed a grand inauguration on Friday.
To mark the silver jubilee celebrations of the Kodava Hockey Fest, the 24 Kodava families that hosted the tournament in the previous years participated in the inaugural event and were honored with 'baale mariyadi' ritual (the ritual of cutting down plantain stumps).
The iconic hockey fest kicked off with a traditional procession across Madikeri, that was carried out by the Muddanda Family members and others from the Kodava Hockey Academy. As the procession reached the Field Marshal KM Cariappa Grounds where the hockey matches will unfurl, the 'baale mariyadi' was extended to the 24 Kodava families who had previously organized the annual hockey fest. The head of the Muddanda Family, Muddanda Devaiah, welcomed everyone, and the formal ceremony was inaugurated by Virajpet MLA and Legal Advisor to CM AS Ponnanna alongside other people's representatives.
