AN antique piece of lamp with rare Shaiva and Vaishnava sculptures was found at Anantapadmanabha temple, Perdoor, here recently.
AN antique piece of lamp with rare Shaiva and Vaishnava sculptures was found at Anantapadmanabha temple, Perdoor, here recently. It is a rare blend of Shiva and Vishnu and reflects the daily practiced rituals of both the cults at the temple, said Prof T Murugeshi, a retired associate professor in Ancient History and Archaeology.
The lamp was donated by Basavannaras Banga to the temple in 1456 AD and this inscription was in the inner enclosure of the temple. With this epigraphical reference, it is clear that the lamp belongs to the 15th century, Prof T Murugeshi added.
