The New Indian Express Madurai
|August 30, 2025
AHEAD of the council meeting of Goods and Services Taxes (GST), eight opposition-ruled states have asked the government to devise mechanisms to address the potential revenue loss arising from the proposed GST rate rationalisation and ensure measures for anti-profiteering.
At a meeting in New Delhi, representatives from eight states — Kerala, Telangana, Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Jharkhand — flagged the issue of revenue losses due to rate rationalisation.
Speaking to the media Kerala's finance minister KN Balagopal said states could lose about ₹2.5 lakh crore, with each state bearing losses as high as ₹10,000-₹15,000 crore.
