Cong seeks deadline of census, not 'headline'

A day after the Centre announced a caste census in the next census, Congress said that Prime Minister Modi is the 'master of giving a headline without a deadline' and called the government's caste census decision a 'diversionary tactic' in the face of demands for taking strong action against Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack.

Addressing a press conference in the capital, Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh said many questions arise about the decision, especially on the intention of the government, and asked "where is the deadline" for conducting the census.

The Congress leader also reiterated the party's demand for amending the constitution to remove the fifty percent ceiling on the reservations for the SCs, STs and the OBCs.
