Mofussil bus stand fire: Special committee formed, probe begins

A HIGH-LEVEL internal investigation has been initiated into the massive fire that broke out at the mofussil bus stand building in Kozhikode, which destroyed several commercial establishments and caused extensive financial loss.
Kozhikode Corporation Mayor Dr Beena Philip has held the businessman, to whom the building was leased, responsible for not ensuring the fire safety precautions, which she stated led to the mishap.
At a press conference on Tuesday, Mayor Beena Philip announced the formation of a special internal committee, comprising the corporation's superintending engineer, joint secretary, and health officer. The committee has been directed to conduct a site inspection and submit a preliminary report within a week. It will investigate potential negligence, unauthorised structural modifications, and encroachments that may have hampered the firefighting operation.
