THE Kozhikode Corporation plans to begin the renovation work of the historic Central Market, one of Malabar's earliest trading hubs, by January 2025. Initial consultations with traders and stakeholders have been completed. However, a delay in file processing at the Collector's office has pushed back plans to lay the foundation stone, originally scheduled for December 2024.
A soil test for the new building has been completed, and the government has granted administrative approval for the ₹55.17 crore project. However, the Central Market Protection Coordination Committee, representing traders from the market, has voiced opposition to the renovation plan.
