A MASSIVE protest was staged by the local residents and representatives of various political parties at Kuttiady and surrounding areas following the tragic death of Abdul Jawad, a 19-year-old student, in a collision involving a speeding private bus.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday near the Kakkad bus stop in Perambra on the Kuttiady-Kozhikode route, has sparked widespread protests and reignited long-standing grievances against the conduct of private bus operators in Kerala.

Abdul Jawad, a student at the Calicut University's Chalikara Regional Centre and a resident of Thazhe Valappil, in Kuttiady, was riding his scooter when it was struck by a private bus named 'Omega'.

According to eyewitnesses, the bus was allegedly racing with another vehicle, attempting to overtake dangerously, when the accident occurred. Jawad was thrown off his scooter, and the bus reportedly ran over his head, causing fatal injuries.

Residents, incensed by the perceived recklessness of the bus driver and a delay in official response, converged on the scene, refusing to allow the bus to be moved. Police faced significant challenges in controlling the mob, before managing to remove the vehicle.
