The centre at Kottathara in the district will be the first-of-its-kind such home in the state

- LESLY JOSEPH @Kalpetta

THE state government has given a nod for the construction of a shelter home to relocate domestic animals in times of disaster.

The centre at Kottathara in Wayanad district will be the first of its kind in the state.

The action comes after Humane Society International India, an international organisation working for the protection of animals, submitted a proposal in this regard to the Wayanad district collector.

Kottathara panchayat will give away 50 cents of land for the project, which is being jointly implemented by the panchayat, District Disaster Management Authority and the organisation.

The project, estimated to cost Rs 6.5 lakh, will be fully funded by Humane Society International India.

As per a recent order issued by additional secretary Anuradha K C, the Kottathara panchayat has been given the responsibility to bear the annual operation cost.
